Jewish Music Clearinghouse and Musician's Collective Work Begins in Earnest
Every August, Moment Magazine runs their yearly Guide to Performing Artists. This is a beautiful section featuring the very best in Jewish performing artists. It is an issue that is kept by many organizations and referred to throughout the planning year. This issue is sent to all current subscribers and it is given to every person who attends the annual CAJE Conference. Moment is putting together the issue now and I wanted to let you know that you can advertise in it. If you want to be included in the FREE listings (name and contact) you can send your information to: Hillary Donohue 4710 41st Street NW Washington, DC 20016 Voice:202-362-9070 ext 212 Fax: 202-364--2636 marketing@momentmag.com
If you want more exposure by taking a 1/4 page ad or bigger in the featured section, please get in touch with Hillary as soon as possible. A 1/4 page ad is $300. (2004 rates)
Michael Monheit (publisher of Moment) also does the advertising for Hadassah magazine. If you are interested in advertising in Hadassah, please give him a call at this same number.
This great web site was Judy Caplan Ginsburgh's labor of love, and was an amazing collection of resources, reviews and more. There was a calendar of performances, and searchable database of artists. For a modest annual subscription, you can get your own listing on the site. Sadly, the Jewish Music community was no longer supporting the site though the modest listing fees, and so the site has been closed.
This is an exciting new project to create an archive of recordings representing the music of the American Jewish experience. We have been told that contemporary Jewish liturgical music of the type that the members of our community create and use will be represented in the archive. We are asking the archive staff to make this more apparent on their web site. So far, this has not happened.

The original sister site to HotShabbat.Com by Hanashir subscriber Robin Selinger, with samples and more. Don't miss it!
A PDF file of a letter from the Transportation Security Administration to the American Federation of Musicians addressing the permission to bring instruments on board airplanes as carry-on luggage. Keep a copy of the letter with you to use when you encounter problems.
From Burton Zipser: The American Federation of Musicians has been trying for several years to improve the attitude of Delta Airlines. They recommend not flying with them until you can carry your instrument aboard, and you can assist your own cause by calling their 800 number every time you fly to let them know that, since they are not hospitable to musicians, you have chosen again to fly with one of their competitors. In fact, if you call them once every two weeks, they may get the idea. Always ask first if their policy has >changed. If they realize that this policy is losing business for them, they WILL change it.
Many thanks to Irwin Oppenheimer for collecting singable English lyrics to popular Israeli songs from members of the Hanashir discussion list and posting to his Chazzanut Online website. The collection can be found at http://www.chazzanut.com/songs.html
Here are parodies and songs submitted by various list subscribers. My thanks to all of them. And there's always room for more!
